Ireen Amnes è una giovane e talentuosa musicista elettronica e disc jokey romana, trapiantata a Londra da qualche tempo. L’intervista che segue è una piacevole chiacchierata, che racconta talento e progetti di questa artista eclettica, che promette presto di esibirsi nella capitale.
Parlaci della tua formazione e di come l’ underground londinese ha influenzato la tua visione della musica.
Nasco come strumentista e cantante. Sono arrivata a Londra 5 anni fa ed i primi incontri con il panorama artistico britannico mi hanno portato ad esibirmi come cantante rock-metal nel corso di alcune gigs. Successivamente ho sentito il bisogno di “mettermi in proprio”, di ritirarmi nel giardino dorato della produzione, volendo dare sfogo alle mie esigenze compositive. Londra mi ha fatto imbattere in un ambiente eclettico, facendomi conoscere artisti di ogni nazionalità; d’altro canto, la sempre maggiore diffusione dell’ elettronica associata al pop e ad altri generi, mi ha definitivamente svelato la potenza del mezzo computer.
Composizione/Produzione e Djing: è nato prima l’ uovo o la gallina?
Prima la Ireen compositrice! Nasco come cantante, chitarrista e autrice di testi. Approcciarsi al djing da musicista, poi, ti consente di avere una prospettiva sicuramente più ampia e completa sugli interventi e sui parametri che vai a modificare in tempo reale. Ti permette di guardare l’atto performativo con una sensibilità sicuramente maggiore.
Siamo nell’ epoca dei social network e delle “self made production”. Qual è secondo te l’arma per il successo?
A tal proposito vorrei raccontarti di come sono arrivata ad esibirmi allo Space di Ibiza la scorsa estate. All’inizio sono andata sul sito Mixcloud, mi sono iscritta ed ho caricato un mio mix. Ho così partecipato ad un contest, Emerging Ibiza, e sono stata selezionata ed invitata a suonare a questo prestigioso locale della movida spagnola. La giuria del contest ha apprezzato l’ organicità del mio progetto, il fatto che avessi una struttura da presentare, dal sito, alla musica pubblicata e agli eventi on-line, fino ad arrivare alla pagina social. È stata valutata positivamente anche l’originalità del mio mix, le cui selezioni sono state improntate più su una scelta personale espressiva che su un particolare attenersi ad una “destinazione d’uso”.
Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri?
Sto lavorando ad un mio nuovo Ep, sarà un lavoro di quattro tracce, non vedo l’ora di pubblicare il prodotto finito. Tra gli altri progetti, il mio brano True verrà pubblicato all’ interno di una compilation dell’etichetta EGG London Recordings, mentre il mio brano Response sarà inserito all’ interno della compilation Say Yes di Coco Cole. Sono in contatto con diversi artisti, tra cui New Opera Hero, per la produzione di remix di loro brani.

Ireen Amnes is a young, talented musician and techno DJ from Rome, currently based in London.
We had a nice chat with this eclectic artist, who told us about her talents and projects and promised to come back to perform in the Italian capital very soon.
Tell us about your training and how the London underground scene has influenced your vision in music.
I started out as an instrumentalist and singer. I arrived in London five years ago and my first meeting with the British art scene led me to perform as a rock/metal singer for the first couple of years. After that, I felt the need to do my own thing in terms of music production, wanting to express my passion for composition. London made me discover an eclectic environment with artists of all nationalities, and the increasing popularity of electronic music gave me the desire to experiment more.
You are a songwriter, producer and DJ; what came first?
Ireen the songwriter was the beginning. I started out as a singer, guitarist and songwriter. In my opinion, approaching DJing from a trained musician’s point of view allowed me to gain more confidence in the actual mixing, especially with improvisation when doing live sets.
This is the era of social networks and a do-it-yourself attitude. What do you think is your weapon for success?
In response to this question, I would like to tell you about how I got to perform at Space Ibiza last summer. It all started with me going on the site Mixcloud, where I uploaded my mix. I participated in an Emerging Ibiza contest and was invited to play at one of the most prestigious clubs on Ibiza’s night club scene. The contest judges appreciated the organic nature of my project and what they also liked was the fact that I already had a strong DIY persona, with a self-made website, free download releases and that I’ve founded my own techno club night called Under My Feet. in London. The judges also liked the originality of my mix, as the selections were based more on a personal choice rather than following the trends.
What are your future plans?
I’m working on my new EP, which will consist of four tracks. I can’t wait to release the finished product. Among other projects, I have a couple of tracks coming out shortly. My track True is set to appear on EGG London Recordings first compilation and my song Response will be coming out as part of the compilation Say Yes: Volume 2, curated by Coco Cole. I am also in contact with several artists, including the electronica band New Opera Hero, to produce remixes of their songs.
